The Admiral MacBride1 The Barbican, Plymouth, Devon PL1 2LR 01752 262054 One of the popular stories connected to this hotel was about a lady being chased into the cellar and murdered centuries ago. During a three year period that started in 2009, Scott Grenney and his partner Kamila, who was the General Manager at the time were to experience some strange phenomena: one of these was a shadow, seen at the end of the bar by three people. One of these was Scott who was talking to a local at closing time and keeping an eye on the bar when he saw a dark shadow move from the kitchen area through the bar and out of sight. He called out his partner's name and she was perplexed when she looked out of the kitchen asking why he had called her name; it obviously wasn't her! Another local saw the same figure on another occasion. This was just after closing time when he saw a shadow out of the corner of his eye move from the bar to the kitchen, but no-one was in there. A barmaid also thought she saw a figure at the end of the bar, when she was alone counting up in the snug. She looked again and it was gone. Again, this was just closing time. In addition to this strange figure, when the pub was closed, Scott and his partner would sometimes be woken by a loud bang as if someone had slammed a door shut downstairs. There was no-one there upon investigation and CCTV showed nothing amiss. All the doors were locked and nothing had fallen from the shelves. On one occasion, in addition to the door slamming, the sound of two huge bangs were also heard. The next morning, two guests in the bed and breakfast complained about the noise but Kamila explained that it was probably just the man who delivered vegetables and who had a key. But as she offered this explanation, the veg man turned up with his delivery and said that he was running late and besides, he would never deliver at 5am in the morning. Link: ASSAP |
