Bodmin Jail

Matthew Weeks spectre is seen in the old jail; he was executed here for the murder of Charlotte Dymond. An old lady in grey is sometimes seen in the Drawing Room and Long Gallery and two young children were seen crying near a condemned prisoner's cell; other figures have been seen too including the claimed spectre of Selina Wadge, who was found guilty of murdering her two-year old disabled son Henry. The smell of cigar smoke, and the sound of footsteps and the rattling of keys, and swinging candle lanterns have also been reported here too amongst many other phenomena.

Update: October 2022 Although the establishment did not respond to my email or facebook query as to whether anything inexplicable had occurred recently, researcher Graham Philpot informed me that, "I did get to speak to the proprietor and actually met with him last year for a podcast. He said that he didn't believe until one night he was locking the place up (prior to the hotel) and saw a ghost in the jailers yard. I think he said it happened in 2019/20 ... His name is Chris Wilkes, commercial manager. He's seen a few things, it's not every day. He's seen a figure in the chapel at 07:45 a few times - he's in a Victorian black suit. He's had a presence standing behind him at the execution pit and poked him. He's seen another figure (an old chap on a chair) in the carriage stable one evening in August 2020. A seated figure in his office. It's like a "phone book - you see it when flicking through but its graining [grainy?]". The owners have invested in a medium that does raki to see what is going on - sometimes nothing, other times there's a lot. A lot of the activity happens in the warm sunny afternoons, with front of house staff told to send visitors to him that have images. [He] said that when they had Most Haunted, most of it was a lot of nonsense. However, they DID see stuff when they weren't filming."
