Dozmary Pool
Nr Bolventor, Cornwall PL15 7TP
At the pool, there have reports of stalking hounds, a coach and horses driving "round and round", ghost lights and a faceless figure. A male spectre is said to sit by the pool at night; he is variously described as either weeping or screaming. He is said to be Jan Treagle, a 17th century magistrate, who is said to have either murdered his wife and children or to acquire the inheritance of a local orphan. Legend says that to atone for his crimes, he must empty the pool with a perforated shell; in this version, the "baying hounds" snap at him to ensure he does not give up.
