Prideaux Place

A young child, thought to be a scullery boy, has been seen running into - but never out - of the pantry here. Honor Fortescue, the wife of the owner, has been seen chasing people out of the bedrooms. Legend says that when her husband died of smallpox she threw herself to her death from the upper balcony; in fact she went on to remarry and have children - and there was no balcony. This may be linked to the (possibly fallacious) story of "The Green Lady" here. There are also claims of a 19th century woman who has been seen sewing in the morning room. A barking and growling of an unseen dog is heard coming from beneath a bed in one of the bedrooms. There is also said to be phantom women spotted on the staircase.
