The Boot InnHigh West Street, Weymouth, Dorset DT4 8JH 01305 774851 An old sailor in "big boots" and a jersey has been seen and a male choir singing sea shanties heard in the early hours. Heavy footsteps and poltergeist-like activity has also been experienced including drops in temperature and furniture and pictures having been found moved when the bar is opened up. Other visible phantoms include a lady "of easy virtue" who sits in the corner waiting for her drowned lover to return, a man wearing a 1930s pinstriped suit and a coachman in the yard (though he does not seem to have been seen recently). Update 11/9/20: Sophie Gardiner, the Manager replied to me, saying "I can confirm, on a day to day basis, there are most definitely odd happenings in the pub on a day to day basis that does not involve the customers haha." In a subsequent phone call, she related how glasses fall off shelves and even explode, gas bottles get turned off, light bulbs blow, footsteps are heard, and even the book used for Track and Trace was thrown about. She also told me how, a couple of weeks previously, someone was seen in the cellar when the gas was being changed over. This figure was possibly female and dressed like a woman and was only seen in the peripheral vision. "Black figures" have also been seen elsewhere, but, again, only in the peripheral vision. Sophie also told me how perfume is smelt in the boss's flat upstairs, but that it fades immediately; this is the area where a woman was murdered an unspecified number of years ago, according to Sophie. She also said that most of these phenomena occur when the pub is quiet, mostly when closed. Link: Dorset Echo |
