Lydford Castle

A "dank, opaque cloud" that vaguely resembles a human is seen in a doorway to a small room on the lower ground floor, and some say that it is accompanied by the jangling of keys, leading to speculation that it is the ghost of a former jailer here. A phantom pig is sometimes reported, as is a black dog, which is, according, to legend the spectral manifestation of a Lady Howard. Footsteps and the sound of shoveling has been heard. A gut-wrenching moan, sounding like someone in their death throes, was once heard, too.
