Gateway to Knighton Gorges Mansion

Although the mansion has long since been demolished, the site is still said to be paranormally active. A dark grey, shadowy figure possibly wearing a hat has been seen on the private land past the gates and on the public road. A similar figure seen years earlier was given a better description - he was wearing a cape, long coat and a stovepipe hat. Other witnesses say he also had a gold pocketwatch. Animal gargoyles or lions are also said to be seen atop the stone pillars at the gateway; however, no such figures have ever been placed there. It is also said that at midnight on New Year's Eve, the old mansion can be seen - one time, a luminous green window was seen where the ground floor would have been; on this same occasion, the sound of a horse and carriage coming through the gates were heard - nothing could be seen but the blue folds of a cape where the coachman would have been. On another New Year, a lady in a mauve ball dress was seen emerging from near the gateposts and hurrying towards the witnesses. The crack of a whip was also heard at this time.
