The Customs House

A smuggler is said to haunt this building. He is said to be "a dark man"and is seen on the top floor. he is believed to be a man named Carter, who it is thought, informed the authorities of the identities of his fellow smugglers who retrieved their cargo of smuggled tea from the House one night. Carter was stoned and drowned by his fellow men for his treachery. Nearby on the quayside, the spectre of Captain Johnson in a dark coat and wide-brimmed hat has been seen; he was in charging of seizing smuggled goods.

Update 17/1/2020 Following an email query from myself, I was contacted by Fabrizio of the cafe and he said that they took over in March 2018 and that "as far as we concern, we didn’t have any “odd phenomena”." A follow-up email 5 years later was answered by Nikki and Fabrizio on 17th March 2025; "...we haven't experienced any paranormal activities since we started trading in 2018."
