Cathedral of St Peter
1 The Cloisters, Exeter, Devon EX1 1HS
01392 255573
A spectral nun has been seen here, usually on July evenings, walking from the nave's south wall across the Cathedral Green before dissolving into a wall. She may be the one reported to walk in the old cloisters and may be connected to the spirit of "John" the ghostly monk in nearby Cathedral Close. Chanting, singing and a welcoming voice saying "Hello" have been heard and other phantoms including monks chanting silently have been seen include a verger who loved the building in life, a priest in a cassock, a purple lights in the Lady Chapel and a glass hearse carrying a suicide victim. Rosewater and the smell of rotting vegetables have also been detected. There are many other ghost reports too! Meanwhile in the Cathedral Yard, a lady dressed in black has been seen, on one occasion scaring off two men who were intent on stealing the slate tiles on a nearby house.
