A number of building have manifested off phenomena; footstep have been heard on the steps leading down to a cellar at Thomas Hall. The daughter of the original owner died falling down these steps and he had the cellar bricked up. A youth wearing clothes dating to before the Second World War was once seen in the Washington Singer building by a security guard; there was no way for the youngster to get in or out. A painter and decorator has sometimes been seen at night on campus carrying a ladder and pots of paint. In the past, a one-off sighting occurred outside a flat on campus; a lady heard a thudding and grating noise outside her room and looking out, she saw a monk pushing a barrow containing the naked, bleeding body of a woman. The witness screamed and the apparition vanished.
