Crab and Lobster Inn

Mill Lane, Sidlesham, West Sussex PO20 7NB

A ghost, thought to be Sir Robert Earnley, has been reported here. He and his two nephews were hoping to head to France to escape Royalists who had taken Chichester in the Civil War. They were ambushed and Earnley was taken to this pub (then known as the Swallow) where he died. He has been seen in the pub and his dying breath heard. A tall figure in a cloak has also been observed in this pub but it is not clear if they have been seen recently due to an exorcism in the 1960s.
A 1989 document, however, disputes the location at which the ghost has been seen, saying "However, they were ambushed on the quayside opposite the Crab and Lobster inn, and Sir Robert died alongside his four companions fighting to the end. There his ghost walks, a tall, uniformed figure, a cloak about his shoulders, seen usually in the early morning."

Update 30/7/20: an email from the hotel states, " I have worked here for 6 years and I haven't seen anything unusual."
