The Filly Inn

Three sailors who murdered a wealthy gentleman and were executed in a gibbet a mile north of the pub have been seen in the inn. After bludgeoning their quarry to death and disposing of his corpse, they stopped at the pub for a drink and it is here where the spectres are seen, having walked from the site of their execution. In the bar itself, glasses have moved by themselves and in one of the bedrooms upstairs is seen an "ill-defined figure."

Update 16/8/21: Sean, a worker at the hotel informs me when asked if he had experienced anything, replied, "fortunately not in my time. I met with the previous landlords the other week and I asked them about the rumours but they said they had never experienced anything."

Update 31/1/24: I recontacted the inn asking about any recent occurrences and Holly replied, "I must say this is something we get asked about quite a lot and most of us here have seen the same thing out the corner of our eye especially in the older part of The Filly. My partner and I both live on site with our dog and have felt as if someone is sat on the end of our bed at night. The Filly used to be called "The Oddfellows Arms" and we have been told by locals that a highwayman was mugged, murdered across on Setley Heath by three smugglers. Apparently the smugglers boasted about their crimes in the Inn at the time and were hanged in "Marlpit Oak", although I'm not sure exactly where this was. We recently had someone stay that asked if we had experienced anything before as she said she had uncontrollable shakes and chills that she couldn't explain."
Holly later sent a link to an old (undated) website that gave some details on the "friendly" ghost of the long dead highwayman. The story is the same as outlined above; three men lay in wait at Marlpit Oak for a traveller who would be returning home with a large sum of money. In the struggle, he was murdered and they dragged his body to Latchmoor, throwing it into the pool. Across the moor at Setley, the three villains visited 'The Three Feathers' (or 'The Three Pigeons') where they were extravagant with their loot and "bragged in their cups" and were taken and hanged at Marlpit Oak. It was sometime before that inn, nicknamed 'The Three Murderers' recovered from its evil savour and was eventually pulled down and rebuilt as 'The Oddfellows Arms.' The ghost is said to be one of the highwaymen, repentant in death. The account returns to the present by saying, "Be assured that the ghost is still around and makes his presence felt by either just passing by or by flinging ornaments across the room. The staff certainly use him as an excuse when something is amiss!"
