The Anchor Inn13 George Street, Hastings, East Sussex TN34 3EG 01424 422256 A tall man in a dark suit and a top hat is seen in the back bar; it is thought he was a judge, hailing from the time that the pub served as a courtroom. There may be another male ghost here, that of a man dressed in high sea boots and wearing a dark blue jersey. Some say that he is possibly a smuggler, and was hanged in the back bar. A lady in a floppy cat has been seen in the upstairs rooms and guests have woken to find her leaning over them in the night - however, there is no feeling of malevolence from her. Also, broken watches or clocks left in the bar have been found fixed overnight - this is believed to be the work of an old clockmaker who was a patron here. Link: Shepherd Neame |
