Royal Victoria Hospital ChapelNetley Hospital Chapel Royal Victoria Country Park, Southampton, Hampshire SO31 5GA 023 8060 5102 The "Lady in Grey", a nurse who jumped to her death because of the depressing nature of the hospital (now demolished) has been seen here. However, some stories say that she accidentally killed a patient and then committed suicide; or that she couldn't bear to live after her loved one died during the war; or that she couldn't bear to be parted from a patient with whom she had fallen in love - a patient who was about to return to the war. Although rarely seen, she has been mentioned as walking the corridors of the chapel and one reports says that she has been seen in the tower; indeed, it is also reputed that she has been in the park itself. Update 29/7/22: I contacted the team that run the park in which the Chapel/Museum is based and asked about any recent phenomena: "none of the staff have had any experiences." I further asked if any visitors had reported any phenomena: "we do have ghost groups visiting though and I believe some have had experiences. We don't have any specific details though." They also admitted that they had a couple of reports from visitors but couldn't remember details. Ursula Pearce, Heritage & Education Officer for the Chapel emailed me a few days later: "to the best of my knowledge none of the staff or volunteers have experienced any of the phenomena you have suggested (or anything else ghostly/odd/inexplicable) at the Chapel or Park over the last 4-5 years. However, we have had visits from a number of paranormal investigation groups since reopening to the Chapel in 2018 and they’ve always been very happy with the things they have found and have said there is plenty of ‘action’" Link: Daily Echo Link: Daily Echo Link: Daily Echo Link: Hampshire Live |
