Jolly Farmer Pub
Andover Road, Winchester, Hampshire SO22 6AE
01962 852 665
Henry Robert Whiteley is reputed to haunt this pub; he was a "rogue" who lived in the 17th century and was hanged when he was found with pilfered items (said to be seven hens). He is blamed for poltergeist-like activity, like taps being turned on and a glass washer being moved. Whiteley has also been seen walking from Winchester gaol to the site of his execution, the gibbet on the crest of North Road on Andover Road, near where the pub is situated.
