Lympne Castle

The ghost that is most associated with the castle comes from the period when it was used as a fortress. It is that of a Roman soldier who can be heard going up the stairs of the eastern tower; he tripped and fell to his death, so there is no sound of him descending again. The other ghosts to be seen are those of Saxon soldiers dating to the Norman Conquest; they were killed by the invaders after being trapped in the castle.

Update 11/7/21: Aimee Langley, the operations manager at the Castle informs me, "We have had various sightings in the last few years. The most common is a lady described as in period dress who walks from our East Tower through the Great Hall in to the courtyard. She has been seen by staff members, and visitors. We also have reports of cigar smoke in one of the rooms down stairs."
