Glastonbury Tor

Glastonbury, Somerset BA6 8BG

There have been a number of experiences here, some of them being a description of a strange atmosphere devoid of sound, or a feeling of being surrounded by invisible "spiritual figures" who exuded a sensation of unwelcomeness, or a description of the surroundings changing, with cars disappearing and the lights of the town vanishing. As far as ghost sightings are concerned, there have been a pair of people performing yoga; a man in a long black cloak; a lady with flowing hair and surrounded by a golden light; and a group of people seen at night dragging something up the hill on their backs. The witness went to help after hearing their moans of pain but found three bodies hanging by the neck by the logs they were carrying up the Tor; then the scene vanished. Weird Wiltshire notes that, "following the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII, the former abbot of Glastonbury Abbey, Richard Whiting and two of his priors were made to climb the tor, their arms strapped to hurdles, before they were hung, drawn and quartered there after being accused of treason. A most savage and brutal end, simply because they stayed faithful the Roman Church."
