When this was known as Drakes Plumbing Supplies, staff experienced a number of phenomena here. The first incident was in 2007, when some cakes had been left overnight on a plastic-covered tray in the middle of a desk. When the office was unlocked the next day, the tray had been flipped over and cakes were scattered all over. On another occasion, a plastic, but "fairly weighty" Viking hat was seen to launch itelf off a windowsill and land several feet away on the floor. On both these times, no explanation could be found.
There had been incidents in the kitchen too, including noises and a heavy glass jar seen to slide across the work surface and when it left the worktop, it hovered slightly and then smashed to pieces on the floor. Another incident, comprising of four loud bangs, sounding like hammering, was heard by nearby staff and they raced to the kitchen. When they arrived there was nothing to be seen.
At night, a motion sensitive camera picked up two lights which swept across the room, followed by a shadowy figure that seemed to get out of one of the chairs and move off.
Additionally, there have been stories of footsteps; hearing customers arrive, but then no one is there when staff check; metal doors shaking and rattling; things that were secure being found broken on the floor (like toilet seats) and chains that secure ladders rattling.
In 2023, the manager's baby daughter visited the store and reacted to 'the man' in one of the aisles. She seemed to be alarmed at his figure and sought comfort from her father - but he could see no one.
