The Antrobus Hotel15 Church Street, Amesbury, Wiltshire SP4 7EU 01980 623163 The apparitions consist of a White Lady who has been seen passing through a mirror in the function room, and there is also a roughly dressed male apparition, a dark shadow figure and two children, aged six and seven. These last two are thought to have drowned in a pond at the end of the garden when the building was a private home. One of them may be the little girl, aged about 7 called Harriet who is seen in the cellar and likes to run up and down the stairs. Another ghost is "a little old lady who likes to watch people sleep"; however, she may be the White Lady mentioned above, and is sometimes said to have been seen in room 7, which is also said to be the most haunted room with things moving around and the sensation of someone invisible sitting on the bed. With regard to other phenomena, there are stories of doors opening and closing, a decorative lantern on the bar swinging open of its own accord (accompanied by a loud clicking noise), items moving, lights and TVs turning on and off, ashtrays filling with water during the night, knocking sounds on the bar door after staff have locked up at night, and footsteps. There are also reports of the sound of pots and pan being smashed together in the kitchen, which was empty at the time. Link: Weird Wiltshire |
