Phenomena was witnessed when this building hosted "Woolworths"; in the early 2000s, a worker was alone in the upstairs stockroom when a Halloween decoration flew from the shelves onto the floor, and a lady dressed in black was seen in the shop whenever staff were required to work at night. The story goes that in Sloper's Department Store, a woman died in the store (Woolworths took over half of the premises) and a room at the top of the building was known as "Annie's Room." Activity continued when Iceland took over the premises. A person was glimpsed going through the door to the rear steps but it was noted that most strange things happened during the evening shift; these included a man seen staring and reflected in the windows (there were no men working the shift at the time) - when the employee realised that the figure was behind her rather than outside she turned round but there was no one there. In the upstairs area, known as "The Void," staff have had their hair pulled.
