The George

French Aristocrat Jean Baptiste de Barre, who escaped his homeland during the French Revolution, haunts this pub; he sustained fatal injuries during a duel on Claverton Down and asked for a last drink. He was brought to the George, where his wish was seemingly carried out. His spectre is described as an insubstantial "shadow", glimpsed out of the corner of the eye.
