This building was once known as Rose Cottage. Prior to the 1920s, an invisible entity would race up and down the stairs, making a sound reminiscent of someone "stamping around in hobnailed boots." In that decade, a "stateley middle-aged lady", appearing quite solid and wearing clothing at least 60 (or perhaps 600 years) old, was seen walking from the drawing room into the dining room. The occupied of the house looked in the room but nothing was amiss apart from a strong scent of lavendar. This ghost was nicknamed "Lady Jane." There were successive incidents when the house was renumbered; contents of cupboards flung about and so on, and these finished when the number was removed from the front door though strange sounds continued. These seemed to cease when an ancient well was discovered in the front room and filled in. Between the 1970s and the 1990s, there were stories that office files and documents would vanish for a time, the smell of lavender detected, the sound of an unexplained "almighty crash" heard, a glass of water moved by itself and the front door refused to open, sealing an employee inside. As of February 2014 all was quiet apparently.
