Lacock Abbey

A hunchbacked dwarf has been seen at this abbey; he is dressed in dark clothes and scurries through the upstairs rooms. Observed at the nearby lake is a lady in a white gown; she is also said to be seen in the Abbey. She is said to be Rosamund Clifford, who was King Henry II's mistress, and whose death is sometimes blamed on his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine. However, others suggest that she may be Lady Ela, the founder of the original nunnery or Lady Sharington, the wife of the man who converted the abbey into a home.
