The George Hotel (Closed)

A smiling elderly lady, believed to be an old servant has been witnessed on a landing, where a cold spot is reported.

A correspondent to the Facebook "Ucanny Fans - Your Stories" tells of how a friend who worked at the hotel as a chef saw a man "[who] had collar length grey hair, swept back, and a bushy handlebar moustache, a bit like Charles Dickens himself. His clothes too were old fashioned I think perhaps tweed. But his face looked quite young so I wondered why he was dressed like he was." The figure was seen seated at the bar and when the witness turned back to him after momentarily turning away, the man was gone. Years later after the chef had left the hotel's employ, the manager saw the same figure one morning in the bar area, heading towards the entrance area and then passing out of sight. The area was not yet open to the public and the manager went to find the strange man but he was gone and a search yielded nothing.
