La Vecchia Orsa

A multitude of phenomena occurred when this building was known as "The Bear Hotel." A woman in grey was seen leaning out of an upper storey window which she had opened. When the room was checked, it was empty and the window was still fastened. Voices were also heard coming from a bedroom, but again, it was found to be empty when checked; on another occasion, a housekeeper walking to the hotel saw a grey lady close the curtains in this room but it was found to be unoccupied that day. The cellar door is known to open to reveal a figure, sometimes accompanied by footsteps. It is also in the cellar that the landlord felt something thrown at him. The pub is believed to have been built on the site of a convent and a bricked up archway in the cellar is said to lead to Lacock Abbey.
