Ye Olde Cock Tavern22 Fleet Street, Holborn, Camden, London EC4Y 1AA 020 7353 8570 According to the Greene King website, in 1984 a small panic ensued when a ghost appeared in the pub in front of customers. At some point, a woman working at the pub also encountered "a smiling disembodied head" at the rear of the building and her screams were heard throughout the building. She later identified the face as being that of novelist and poet Oliver Goldsmith who is said to have attended the pub during life (a legend says that he was buried outside the pub even though it was transferred across the road a century after his death; he is actually buried in London’s Temple Church.)
