Abbey Road Studios

The most famous phantom here is "The White Lady", who is believed to be the ghost of former resident Edith Rosse. She was an actress and was married to house owner Arthur John Maundy Gregory to hide his homosexuality. In 1932 she died under suspicious circumstances and was buried in a plot that was succeptible to flooding, hence destroying forensic evidence. Just before she died, Gregory, who was suffering from financial problems, convinced his wife to write him into her will, and he benefitted from a £18,000 payout.
There have been tales of doors swinging open and closed, and in the early hours in the 1960s, a commissionaire performing security checks saw a figure in white pass through the doors. As the figure passed the frightened witness, the temperature dropped and then the shape passed on, into the gloom where it vanished. The commissionaire resigned the next day.
Other stories talk of the strong smell of perfume suddenly filling the room, and a stain (alleged by some to be a bloodstain) that changes colour in the attic. An interesting one-off experience occurred when an engineer was taking some photos of the building at night. He noticed that the light in one of the upstairs offices was on, but when it was checked and the room unlocked the light was off. No one else could have accessed the room and no-one had been seen going up or coming down from the office. The light was found to be working perfectly.
