When the play "The Hanging Wood" is being performed, poltergeist-like activity occurs here, like curtains, doors and lights being interfered with. On one occasion, a figure was seen watching the rehearsals but disappeared when approached. The play is about Mary Blandy, who lived in Henley and murdered her father with arsenic in 1752. She was arrested and hanged, while her accomplice fled to France to evade justice.
