The reports of ghostly activity date from its days as a branch of Co-op c.2007, but the activity, attributed to "Fred". Weird Wiltshire tells us, "Numerous staff reported strange occurrences over the last few decades. Most incidents seem to centre around the store room, which sits in an older part of the building. In the 1990s, the store was expanded and today looks completely different to how it was a few decades back." An employee of over 20 years says that one time he heard loud, mumbling but could not discern the source. Another worker talked of how the kettle would turn itself on and heard a whisper behind them; this would also happen to new employees. There have also been screwed up paper thrown at a man, the sound of the warehouse door slam, stock falling off shelves, and a lady being tapped on the shoulder while another was touched on the back of her head. Whether these phenomena still persist is not known at present.
