The George Inn

High Street, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, OX10 0BS

A weeping woman, believed to be an ex-landlord's daughter, haunts this hotel; it is said that she was driven insane when she saw her lover killed in a ruckus and she now infests "The Teardrop Room" (named after she drew teardrops on the wall, fashioned from a mixture of her own tears and soot from the fireplace). A 1989 document states that, "It is said (though most improbably) that the ghost which haunts the George Hotel was a mistress of Charles I, who shut herself up in one of the rooms and cried herself to death when told of his execution."

Update 22/2/22 The Hotel replied to my email about any recent phenomena: "Even though online there have not been recent reports about supernatural presence in our Tear Drop room we still receive an abundance of comments regarding strange happenings."
