Brakspear's website tells us, "In the 1940s, a murder took place in the pub that claimed the life of the then-landlord’s wife and, legend has it, the wife appears crying and is dressed in brown. During the night, visitors also have claimed to hear the sound of beer barrels rolling around the cellar, but, upon further investigation, the beer barrels have not been disturbed."
