The ghostly figure of a lady in grey has been seen here and it is reputed that she was either a traveller who was visiting the pub or was a barmaid. She died after falling down the stairs after she eavesdropped on a Masonic meeting that was occurring here. Apart from this, a punter in the pub many years ago said that as she was in the toilets, a cubicle door flew open, and the sound of an "old style" toilet being flushed - even though none of the appliances had been activated.
A former manager said that while the site was being renovated, builders told him that they would see something in their peripheral vision, and that the shadows would seem to be heading towards the flight of stone stairs at the rear. The manager's Doberman would stare at the wall separating the his quarters on the 3rd floor from the older areas of the pub, which were disused at the time. The manager also found the plugs for the toaster and kettle ripped with her wall forcibly; the sockets were in the partition wall that had fascinated his dog. Eventually a "cleansing" of the property was performed, when a "whoosh" went through the room and out of the door. This seemed to have been the last hurrah for the phantom as nothing more was noted after this.
