Chenies Manor HouseLatimer Road, Chenies, Buckinghamshire WD3 6ER 01494 762888 In renovation work in the 1970s, a small room was found concealed next to the Pink Bedroom; within, a small altar and "9 September" was found scratched on the walls. The discovery instigated the haunting: a "heavy set" limping man in dark clothes is fleetingly glimped, and no matter how often the door to the secret chamber and the bedroom are closed, they are always found open again. A 1989 document notes that, "One of the recent owners, Lt-Colonel Mathews, has heard limping sounds outside his bedroom and traced them to the ancient gallery where 200 of Cromwell's men were known to have been billeted [in the civil war]."
