St Peter's Church
Peter's Street, Frocester, Stonehouse, Gloucestershire GL10 3TJ
Offended that their prestige for church bell ringing was threatened, a group of drunken ruffians from Coaley descended upon the church
and cut down the bell, only for their efforts to be thwarted by a mysterious lady in a winding sheet who sat on top of it. Ignoring her, the lads tried to move the bell further without success and they eventually fled. The next day, the villagers rehung the bell and the lady has been sometimes been seen in the churchyard looking up at the bell.
