St Albans Cathedral

Sumpter Yard, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 1BY
01727890210

Ghostly music and a choir have been heard here; additionally, monks and dark shapes, lit candles and an unexplained smell of incence have also been reported. An unusual spectre is a 2nd World War airman, dressed in a blue uniform. Phantom monks have also been seen outside to the west of the Cathedral, apparently carrying a coffin; and in the churchyard, a "Grey Lady", said to be a Miss Van der Hauten who eloped with the organist. Old reports describe the sound of bells ringing even though they had been removed, and an organ that played itself - the keys could be seen being pressed and the pages of the music sheet were being turned by unseen hands. A report of unknown veracity states that St Alban himself has been noted on occasion, "dressed in white robes with a golden halo behind his head."
