The Olde King's Arms41 High Street, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire HP1 3AF 01442 255348 A "big fat man" has been seated by a bed, laughing (some suggest that this is Henry VIII as he is said to have courted Anne Boleyn here); other apparitions include an elderly man and a lady companion in 17th century attire. Some claim that another phantom is "The Brown Lady", who met her love in the pub but he failed to return after being sent away during the First World War. It is said that she still waits for his return. Doors have also been reported to open and close and tables knocked over. Update 22/7/22: The hotel replied to my Facebook query asking about any recent phenomena: "I have been the landlord for 5 years. There has been absolutely nothing to report here I'm afraid." On 18/1/24 I sent a follow-up email asking about any possible recent activity and Ben replied, "I have been here 7 years and nothing seen or reported!" Link: HertsLive |
