A phantom coach and horses is said to have been seen, rushing along the drive and into the house where it dematerialises as it travels up the stairs. According to legend, this happens on New Years Eve. The Dowager Marchioness of Salisbury, who died when she accidentally set fire to the house, is said to float along the long gallery.
