Clearwell CavesLambsquay Road, The Rocks, Clearwell, Coleford, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire GL16 8JR 01594 832535 During the 1970s, filming in the mines was interrupted by an intruder dressed as a miner - when the crew tried to remove him, he walked straight through one of the men; further attempts at filming was abandoned when a bright light was seen approaching them, which then vanished. Another group went into the complex to verify or refute the story and saw a yellow light, which some thought was a man carrying a candle. Soon after, the sound of a pickaxe working the rock face forced another rapid evacuation! The figure may be one that is said to help lost visitors find their way out; on one occasion he (or another phantom?) even offered advice to another film crew about the most efficient layout of their cables and may have even provided advice to a working miner that helped him prevent damaging a drill. The man may be a miner who was trapped by a roof fall and his colleagues, despite their best efforts were unable to reach him and had to abandon any rescue attempts. Link: Great British Ghosts |
