"...a Grey Lady who is thought to have fallen down a staircase at the pub during the 18th century [is] often spotted at the base of the establishment’s steps" according to a newspaper in 2023. Presumably she perished in the tragic tumble! Another paper gave more details of other phenomena; "Staff have regularly reported spooky goings on ... Sightings include a tall figure appearing inside the locked pub wearing a black hat and black coat, and a tendency for clocks and watches to stop on the stroke of midnight in the Great Hall – the oldest part of the building."
