Burglar alarms being activated with no cause, a door that had been firmly closed being found open, thumps and loud bangs, lights found turned on (when they had been switched off), footsteps and disembodied whisperings and mutterings have been experienced here. The phantom of a small, "playful" monk has also been seen, on one occasion seemingly ablaze (interestingly, a guest woke to find burn marks on the tops of her feet). During another encounter, the monk recounted details of the village to a guest! It is said that the monk hanged himself in an upstairs room many years ago; another version of the tale is that the monk was tried for an unspecified crime in the bar area and was hanged there from a hook which can still be seen to this day. Another temperature related phenomena are rapidly drops or rises in temperature in a guest bedroom; on one occasion a drop occurred extremely rapidly as soon as the light was turned off. Room 4 is also said to host another phantom - a lady who was killed when she was run down by a horse and cart (she may be the old lady seen in the back bar?). Other phenomena include a little boy who sits in (or near!) the fireplace, and the sound of a little girl singing.
