A "Grey Lady" is said to walk here. She came here in 1643 with the Royal Court, during the Civil War. While King Charles attempted to take nearby Gloucester, two young princes (later Charles II and James II) were safely housed at Matson House before being taken to Oxford when a Parliamentarian army appeared and thwarted the King's siege. One of the female courtiers left her shoe behind in the evacuation and it is this that the ghost allegedly seeks.
