It is said that the basement used to connect with St Mary de Crypt's church and "shadowy figures" have been seen here; there are also tales of chanting emerging from this area. Cutlery has been found moved to other tables in the restaurant, lights interfered with, bottles falling from shelves and two apparitions (a woman and a cavalier) have been seen too - and the owner's dog would sometimes go into hysterics, rushing around howling; an owner also felt an invisible hand on him at one point. During refurbishment work, the workmen elected to sleep in the building during the night, and one of them noted that the lights in the building were going on and off, a chair was lifted from the ground and a light fixture was seen spinning around. The next night, an electric razor turned on by itself even though it was not plugged in, and the doors were swinging open and shut.
