Frogmore Hall

Walkern Road, Watton at Stone, Hertfordshire SG14 3RU

The sounds of children "laughing and chattering" and then coming up and down the stairs have been heard here; the voices would trail off in a room off the main hall. A 19th century occupant of the hall, Edwina, who hanged herself in the tower is said to walk down the stairs, leaving the scent of lavender in her wake. Additionally, a coach and horses has sometimes been seen driving towards the area of the stables, past the main entrance. Reverend Thomas Dawson, who owned the hall and died in 1889 has been seen in dark clothing and a cloak and has been seen walking around the gallery above the main hall. A spectral woman has been seen waiting and watching out of a window in the old building; she is said to be a lady who waited in vain for her husband to return from the French wars. When this never happened, she killed herself.
