Colchester Castle

James Parnell, a Quaker, was fined £40 because the authorities disapproved of his preaching. When he refused to pay his fine he was imprisoned in the castle and his ghost has been seen in the dungeons where he died. However, some sources say that his spirit has not been seen recently.

Updated: 28/2/20 Ben Paites of the Museum Resource Centre informs me that, "nothing [has been] recorded [at the Castle] and all anecdotal (mainly from visitors)"
