Claydon House

Sir Edmund Verney is believed to be the phantom here, where is seen pacing about or standing on the stairs, with a "look of dismay" on his face. When he was captured during the Civil War, he refused to surrender the King's banner - so his hand was chopped off. Even though the flag was later retrieved by Royalists - with Verney's hand still clasping the staff - his body was never found. Another ghost here is "The Grey Lady" who is said by some to be Florence Nightingale, who in life would visit her sister and spend time at Claydon House.

Update 28/9/21: Tory Aubrey-Fletcher, the Operations Manager for the Hall informs me, "To our knowledge there are no out of the ordinary happenings to report from Claydon Estate."
