Snowshill Manor

A previous owner, Charles Wade, who restored the manor in the mid twentieth century, is reported to walk here but is rarely seen; his footsteps are more often reported now. However, another report says that Wade doesn't walk here after all, but Charles Marshall, an earlier owner, has been seen in nearby lanes, on a big black horse although it is not clear if he is still seen. This same source says that the footsteps are connected to the abduction in 1604 of 16 year old Ann Parsons, kidnapped by the owner John Warne and forced to marry him in that room. A dark hooded figure, thought to be a monk, has been reported here, passing through walls, kneeling as if in prayer and reclining on the floor. His presence disturbs farm animals for several hundred yards around; it is said that the mansion is in a state of illumination during his visits. In addition, there are stories of grating noises and loud clanking coming from within.

Update 20/4/22: Jennifer Bowen, the Collections & House Manager replied to my query for any recent phenomena: "There have been a number of reports over the years from visitors who have felt an atmosphere, but nothing has been reported recently I'm afraid."
