The Chalk Hare

16 Melbourn Street, Royston, Hertfordshire SG8 7BZ
01763 290530

When this was the Banyers House Hotel, there was knocking on the front door, the sound of a baby crying, poltergeist-like activity, conversations between invisible patrons and a ghostly Cavalier, named "Henry" who takes his cape off and bows to people have been reported here; Henry is said to be seen mainly in room 4, and this room was not refurbished when the rest of the hotel was being renovated. Other figures has been seen in the bar area; a man of about 45, all in white and a lady in "a poke bonnet, shoulder cape and long dress." Reports of more phantoms include a solider in a flat cap who walks through the wall and moves things around, and a monk in the cellar.
