The Pickled Plum

Once known as "The Plough", footsteps in the disused upper floors of the pub were to be heard; during renovation work, the ghosts were thought to have become riled, with the footsteps becoming louder, glasses falling off the shelves and smashing and other items moving without assistance. A lady in a striped dress has been reported; locals have called her "Mary" and claim that she lived in the pub in 1745 and was a woman of ill virtue. "Tom", another phantom is believed to haunt the bedroom and hallway and has been seen seated in a wicker chair; in the bedroom itself, the quilt has been felt to move and the room is described as being cold. There would seem to another male phantom, who was seen seated in a chair by the fire downstairs in the bar area. He was described as being about 60 and wearing a cardigan; the licensees say that he also stands for several minutes watching them and has been blamed for walking through the building leaving all the doors open in his wake. He is said to be a previous landlord called John Hemming. The kitchen is also a source of paranormal reports; staff have heard their name being called, and a pillar of cold air would manifest in the hatchway and follow the licensees around. Sadly, latest reports would indicate that all became quite at the Plough when they licensees left. Whether this is still the case, with the change of name, is not currently known.
