When this was "The Cross" pub, customers have found themselves locked into the toilets, and there are stories of the taps of beer barrels being turned off and bottles falling off shelves. Punters who were playing a game of pool voiced their scepticism on the ghost stories, at which point the cue chalk levitated and soon afterwards a whisky bottle fell off the shelf onto the floor and smashed. The last landlady, who was a resident in 1987 and 1993-2003 never experienced anything. However, after the pub became a private home, a resident in 2006 heard footsteps, banging on the bedroom door, and the cat was mesmerised by something; this prompted the owner to investigate the corridor, at which point something banged on the door as she opened it, and the TV turned on by itself. There have also been a sound outside the bathroom akin to chains being rattled but the owner's husband heard nothing at all. The residents would also hear the sound of a baby crying during the night. The next door property has had incidents too; hearing a sound in the lounge, an investigation revealed nothing except the chair rocking as if someone had just got up. Glasses that had been at the back of the counter in the kitchen were found smashed on the floor; they would have had to be lifted up and over everything else on the counter.
