The Vanilla Alternative

In the past guests in "The Anchor Lodge Hotel" reported heavy footsteps in the bar area in the early hours of the morning, and staff talked of pots and pans being rattled in the kitchen and a slamming noise which could be either the cellar door or a nearby hatchway. Room 5 was for the bar manager and she said that strange lights crossed her bed in the night.

Update 12/4/22: On 12/4/22, I spoke to Jules, who with her partner Chris, runs this establishment, now a swinger's den. These are the notes of my telephone conversation:
Jules been here for 11 years and all sort of things happening, with guests reporting things every 2-3 weeks.
She has seen a young lad, which she said was standing next to her, and described as being 11-12 years old, skinny, tall and dangly. [gangly?]
There have been a dozen or so sightings of a young girl, wearing a hard woolen grey waistcoat, and a long skirt in the same material and a white blouse. She was wearing something on her head, like a bonnet or cap. Witnesses provide different ages; some say 10-11, some say 15-16. Mediums claim that she is sometimes seen with a young boy, aged about 4. It is reputed that he and the girl are brother and sister, the niece and nephew of a Captain Stewart who murdered them. Stewart has been seen in the building, described as 6 feet tall, "big build", "a dark figure with a beard" and wearing a long waxed trench coat, like a sou'wester material. He is said to hate women.
A worker named Carl stopped working there due to the ghosts.
Jules mum was seated at table when she was shoved roughly in the back.
A lady from the Georgian era has been seen, knocking on the glass on the front door, wanting to be let in.
Malcolm, an ex-landlord who died of a stroke when recent road diversions killed off his trade has been seen sitting at the back of the dance floor, on a chair that is invisible. Jules dog won't go into the room.
A customer used to rush through reception, quickly putting his fee on the front deck and then heading out because he was so terrified of the woman in a dark crinoline dress at reception.
In the upstairs area, are three corridors; in the first of these, a lady in a light nightgown has been seen going between rooms.
Room 11 has a bad atmosphere, according to Jules mum who has stopped there. In the 1980s, a German coach company used the site as a break, for driver's swapping over etc. One lady in a party was woken up in the night by a voice screaming "F*** off!" at her repeatedly.
Jules's stepson used to stop in room 1 until they eventually moved him out. He would see a little girl aged 7-8 in a white nightdress. She had long, straight fair hair and wearing a mop cap. Jules's son used to hang his freshly ironed shirts from the curtain rail and when the ghost was seen the shirts would blow into the window. He would ask her, "What are you doing here?" but she would only smile and then vanish.
Jules and some people were sat in the bar area a few years ago when they all smelt burning. It is in this area that a little boy has been seen standing in the window. It is said that he died in a fire.
In the quiet room, a "clown-like figure" (wearing Jester's clothing) has been seen, and he may be associated with "Cheeky Charlie". In the past, the building was used by a child abuse ring and one of the victims who was exploited by his own dad said that he was kept in the old cellar, and being warned that "Charlie", part of the gang who work similar clown/jesters clothes, would keep an eye on him. The quiet room is above the cellar.
The old cellar has other tales too; when the door is left open, strange things happen in the building including things moving and disappearing, and odd sounds including pots and pans rattling in the kitchen. Phenomena would stop when the door was closed .Things got so bad that they handle was taken off the door. Many years ago, the cellar was used by someone with a "schoolroom fetish" which included outfitting it with a lectern, blackboard and desks (the type with chairs attached). These seem to have been left there afterwards and some 5 years later, a worker going down there inquired as to whether anyone had moved the desks but no one knew anything of this. Jules explained that she thought that, because the cellar was below the water table, it had flooded and the desks had drifted due to this, but the tables had actually been piled up in one spot as if they were ready for a bonfire!
In the garden, misty creatures (about 5 feet 7-8 inches tall) have been seen walking, usually in the summer between 5-6am.
